Home Sweet Home! After Surgery Update!
July 16th, 2008 by BlogRmom
Well we are home!! We are home!! HOME SWEET HOME!! Surgery went well.
Alex was first and I went into the OR with his while they put him under. He did good, went under in less then a minute. He came out of surgery and was a little crabby/upset (youngesters sometimes are with anesethia) but as soon as I got him and rocked him he was fine. He did vomit 4 times. Of course the nurses were so dramatic and more worked up about it then I was. In fact I think they thought I was odd for not being worried. Truthfully, he’s got reflux and if he goes so long without eating/drinking that alone will make him vomit… so no, I am not going to be worried. He didn’t vomit DURING surgery at all. They thought he might. So the fact he didn’t do THAT was good enough for me. I guess when you deal with reflux day in and day out you know it better. And any mom knows their child more then a nurse who’s just met us. He was pretty sleepy while we were at the hospital, but took some apple juice via cup.Â

Mariah was next and I went into the OR with her too while they put her under. She took a little longer, about 3 minutes and she was out. She came out of surgery and they woke her and she was crying. I was right there though and she settled quickly. She said her throat hurt and she asked for medicine. So they gave her some pain medicine. She also had an ice pack to put on her throat. She’s very tired and although she chewed on a few ice chips she really didn’t want anything to drink yet. She’s had a couple sips of things since we’ve been home, but nothing much.

We all moved to the peds unit and the kids rested for a little bit. Mariah just wanted to go home. Since our DR was there in surgery I asked for him to stop after surgery and he did. I asked him to allow us to come home, Mariah really wanted too and truthfully, she’s having a MUCH harder time. I want her to be comfortable and she wanted nothing more then to come home. The DR knowing us, allowed us to check out around lunch time and come home. Alex is doing good, and he only had the 4 vomiting epiosides. 2 were after he drank some juice, 2 were before. He’s been fine since we got home though. He hasn’t had any food food yet. He had a small cup of yogurt.
We we got home everyone napped. My MIL came over and relieved me so I could nap for a bit (my hubby was out cold as soon as we got home because he worked 3rd shift last night). The kids napped more. And she went ahead and gave them the doses of medicine they were due for.
Alex is doing well now and he’s up and about and pretty active. Mariah is still down and not taking much, even ice or popsicles… We are working with her though. She’s definetly having a harder time. As I am typing they’ve both crashed out again and are napping.
All in all everything went well. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers!! Here’s a link for today: office furniture. I will update more soon!!
